Welcome to the common application for the Harvard International Relations Council (IRC), one of the largest and oldest student-run organizations at Harvard College. Dedicated to promoting international affairs education, both at Harvard and globally, the IRC operates six core programs and organizes seven conferences across four continents. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit affiliated with the United Nations Department of Global Communications.
As the hub for international relations at Harvard, we host speaker events, collaborate with international NGOs, and engage with prominent global figures. Our goal is to inspire students worldwide to explore their passions for global affairs through our seven Model UN conferences held globally and our competitive Model UN team, which competes across the US and Canada. Additionally, we inform a global readership through the Harvard International Review, our quarterly journal, and impact local classrooms through the Harvard Program for International Education, which brings international relations education to Boston area high schools. Many IRC alumni continue their contributions to global affairs in various capacities after graduation.
Whether or not you have a clear interest in international relations, the IRC offers something for everyone, regardless of your intended concentration. Many members join us from diverse academic backgrounds, including STEM, and find their niche within the organization. Our global scope creates countless opportunities to develop skills, whether it’s identifying business opportunities, negotiating contracts, managing a substantial budget, designing print layouts, or planning large-scale conferences with thousands of attendees.
There is a place for everyone at the IRC, and all programs are free of charge for members. This includes opportunities for domestic and international travel, with many costs reimbursed as part of your participation.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out at msc@harvardirc.org. Want to chat with one of our members? Sign up for a Coffee Chat here. We look forward to welcoming you to our organization soon.
Best regards,Kaitlin Cascio and Emily Chen

HPIE is the non-profit arm of the IRC, serving both humanitarian crisis areas and the greater Boston area. We will be preparing and teaching curriculums that cover practical professional and survival skills, as well as key issues in international relations. We are also looking to expand our international program, collaborating with both Harvard organizations and beyond to deliver quality education outside of the Harvard bubble.
This year, HPIE will be a great way to be involved outside of the Harvard bubble with a close-knit community. Time commitments and responsibilites are extremely flexible, and we’re hoping to provide not only opportunities for leadership and public service, but local and international travel as well. No teaching experience is necessary and all expenses, including transportation and meals, are covered. We are so excited to have you!
Harvard International Relations on Campus (IRoC) is Harvard’s premier undergraduate discussion forum for international politics and current global affairs. We work with the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs to invite foreign diplomats and scholars of international relations to speak with students who are passionate about learning more about the world.
Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN) and Harvard National Model United Nations (HNMUN) are the high school and collegiate Model United Nations conferences run by the IRC in February. Both HMUN and HNMUN are consistently ranked as the #1 conference on their respective circuits, and are well-known as the oldest, largest, and most prestigious MUN conferences. At H(N)MUN, substantive and administrative staffers run committees and help logistically plan the conference.
